Danziger Projects says…

During his nearly 15-year tenure at Look magazine, Paul Fusco developed an acute eye for human pathos. He documented the hard-up lives of Latinos in New York City, miners in Kentucky, and, recently for the Magnum agency, the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq. In 1968, Look hired Fusco to accompany Robert Kennedy's casket from New York to DC — ostensibly to photograph the funeral train's high-profile passengers. Instead he snapped, on average, more than four pictures a minute, training his camera on the thousands of mourners lining the tracks to pay their respects. With its top-down perspective and bright Kodachrome hues, the series provides a vivid glimpse of loss in the American landscape.
