Known for its heady, subversive blend of vaudeville camp and modern dance, David Parker and the Bang Group's ShowDown reinvents Irving Berlin's classic musical Annie Get Your Gun. Part of dancenOw|NYC's dancemOpolitan series at Joe's Pub, ShowDown sends its performers tapping, singing, waltzing, and hoofing through a rarely heard recording of Berlin's original songs by Judy Garland and Howard Keel — no belting by Ethel Merman here. ShowDown overflows with choreographer David Parker's sly sense of humor, transporting the musical's themes of love, ambition, and competition between the sexes to today's world where no one — yet everyone — is the sharp-shooting Annie.
