More Flavor: Discussion Pop Rally presents Mika Rottenberg

To cast her films, Israeli video and installation artist Mika Rottenberg trolls the Internet. In Mary's Cherries (2004), three female fantasy wrestlers form a blue-collar production line, turning red fingernails into maraschino cherries. Cheese (2007) was inspired by a woman who calls herself Lady Grace and keeps her hair longer than she is tall. In the film, a family of Shaker-like women live with goats and "milk" their hair. Rottenberg once described her work as a play on the "creepy" idea of the body as a territory from which we extract value. Tonight, Rottenberg discusses her work. A cocktail reception follows, featuring DJ Well Revered.
