More Flavor: Festival Bastille Day on 60th Street

Like the Fourth of July, if the bright lights were replaced by an angry mob, Bastille Day commemorates the symbolic crux of the first French Revolution. Today's festival is sure to summon much of New York's 70,000-strong French population, transforming the Upper East Side into a veritable Continental revue. Attractions include a "Tour de France" bike race, street bowling, a variety of musical performances (French gospel?), and those ever-risqué can-can dancers. You can also earn back your winter chub with a rich and creamy culinary tour of Francophone lands.
