Performing Arts: Dance Nélida Tirado

Duende, the spirit of flamenco, is rarely bestowed upon dancers lacking a Spanish birthright. But the powers that be made an exception for Bronx-born Nélida Tirado, whose skill has made her a fixture in the flamenco circuit here and abroad. Tirado's ferocious, elegant style can be seen in the intensity of her gaze, her posture, and her whiplash turns. Collaborating with Joyce SOHO, Tirado presents her solo work 37 años along with the premier of Delirio. With a live original score and special guest El Keko from Spain, Tirado's performance is the very definition of duende — nationality be damned.
