If Simon Lord's voice sounds familiar, it's because the soulful Brit, before leading the Black Ghosts, held down vocal duties in the earliest incarnation of Simian — back when the band played radiant pop-psychedelia, before its current, dance-oriented (and mobile) direction. The Black Ghosts play what they've deemed "perverse, personal pop music," blending crisp production with finely tuned dance-floor sensibilities. Tonight, they take to the stage with Lord on vocals and Theo Keeting (formerly of the Wiseguys) improvising the group's cuts on samplers and sequencers. Residents Dave P and JDH open up with a smattering of new house, techno, and electro.
