More Flavor: Discussion Darin Strauss and A.M. Homes

Both Darin Strauss and A.M. Homes break from their writing styles in their most recent books. Strauss' preceding novels, Chang and Eng and The Real McCoy, were highly imaginative, fictionalized accounts of the titular historical figures, but with More Than It Hurts You, he turns to the suburban landscape of his own youth — Long Island — for a modern tale of family crisis. Homes, meanwhile, swerves away from her acclaimed fiction writing in favor of The Mistress's Daughter, an experimental memoir about her complicated genealogy. Tonight, Strauss and Homes read and discuss their creations at Housing Works; they also take questions and sign books.
