Many reviews of former Nickel Creek mandolinist Chris Thile's last solo album, How to Grow a Woman from the Ground, noted that all five of his group's players were under 30 years old. Now known as Punch Brothers, the still-young ensemble (only one has since crossed the great age divide) is currently touring in support of 2008's similarly inspired Punch. Boasting some of the finest (and fastest) picking in the biz, the group's music melds bluegrass, jazz, classical, and pop, harnessing a youthful fire fueled by Thile's endless sense of creative composition.
