Like so much music out of the UK, Kevin Martin's projects have always shown a strong Jamaican influence. Whether recording as Pressure, Ladybug (his collaborations with female vocalists), or, most frequently, the Bug, Martin melds dancehall beats with shotgun snares, off-kilter synths, and destroyed bass. His latest record, London Zoo — out this summer on Ninja Tune — features guest spots from the likes of vocalists Tippa Irie, Flowdan, and Spaceape. Both the Bug and tonight's MC, the inimitable Warrior Queen, are appearing in NYC for the first time; the Trouble & Bass regulars warm things up with their own mix of grime, bassline, and ravey house.
