Art Good Wood 2008

Though skateboard designers get bonus points for allowing their work to be defaced on handrails and curbs, deck art deserves its own unscuffed moment. Good Wood spotlights the craft at Brooklyn's alterna-art settlement 3rd Ward, with 40 custom boards from the original Detroit show and plenty more from local artists. Brooklyn-based Bobby Puleo exhibits his skate-inspired found-object art, and other quirky attractions (photo booth, hot-dog stand) deepen the city-street-cum-art-gallery ambiance. Proceeds go to Stoked Mentoring, an action sports nonprofit that helps at-risk kids get in touch with their inner bros.
