Past and present Dirty Projectors Nat Baldwin, Charlie Looker, and Angel Deradoorian congregate tonight for an eclectic solo showcase. Contrabassist Nat Baldwin's ethereal, avant-garde melodies are as surprising and complex as his backstory: a former basketball star, he eschewed the court to study under experimental composers Anthony Braxton and Alvin Lucier. Charlie Looker's Extra Life lands prog-metal with a light touch, seamlessly incorporating elements of jazz, classical, and even pop music. Angel Deradoorian, meanwhile, plays solo, layering dreamy, aerial vocals over bass, piano, and flute.
