Performing Arts: Cabaret/Burlesque The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac and The Young Ladies of...

As a drag performer, playwright, songwriter, and director, Taylor Mac wears many hats (and dresses). This month, the downtown legend takes up residence at HERE, performing two original shows in repertory. The first, The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, is a collection of political songs whose highlights include "The Palace of the End," a love song about Lynne Cheney and Saddam Hussein. The second, The Young Ladies of..., is the story of Mac's father, a lieutenant in Vietnam, who searches for love through personal ads. In both shows, Mac's razor-sharp wit and colorful costumes are on fine display.
