Ammon Shea, writer and — let's face it — all-around nerd, decided to expand his vocabulary and erase his social life by reading the entire Oxford English Dictionary in a single year. In Reading the OED, Shea chronicles his experience of slogging through the 21,730-page book and highlights notable words and etymologies (archaic as they may be) in a surprisingly readable way. Tonight, at the newly renamed McNally Jackson Booksellers, Shea talks with OED editor-at-large Jesse Sheidlower about his journey through the gargantuan dictionary.
