The Boredoms may have pummeled ears in NY and LA with their 88 BoaDrums, but the Wordless Music Series throws down the gauntlet with the world premiere of Rhys Chatham's A Crimson Grail for 200 Electric Guitars. And Chatham's in-the-round raising of sonic consciousness isn't even the culminating event of this evening dedicated to the "transcendental and ecstatic dimension" of music — that honor goes to the US debut of Manuel Göttsching's E2-E4, presented with visual wonderama from the Joshua Light Show. The event begins with a rare performance of works by 13th-century French composer Pérotin, whose gorgeous polyphonic harmonies for chorus are as likely to melt your brain as the more modern pieces.
