Vetiver w/ Phosphorescent and Meg Baird

While often grouped with the freak-folk scene because of their close affiliation with (sometimes member) Devendra Banhart, Vetiver generally favor winsome pop melodies over tribal chants. In concert, guiding light Andy Cabic leads his shaggy but well-honed band through a warm set of originals, mellow arias, and affectionate covers. (Thing of the Past, Vetiver's latest album, collects some of these covers for one of the best tribute records since Yo La Tengo's Fakebook). Cabic's choice of songs bears the imprint of a sophisticated record collector, though the singer's lilting croon is reason enough to dive back in with Vetiver.
