Tonight, the perennially youthful Thurston Moore breaks away from his usual post as Sonic Youth's frontman for a noise-rock session with drummer Ryan Sawyer. Not to be outdone by Scarlett Johansson (Sawyer keeps the beat on her heart-wrenching Tom Waits covers), Moore decided to collaborate with the versatile drummer in a series of small concerts. In May, they performed an ear-shattering set at a New Haven community center (check out the video); now, they hit the Stone, John Zorn's wonderfully tiny avant-garde music venue on Avenue C.
