There's no better way to watch Wes Anderson's Rushmore than with a bunch of people who look a little something like Jason Schwartzman. Tonight, Anderson and co-writer Owen Wilson's tale of a manically ambitious high-schooler bent on wooing a widowed first-grade teacher wraps up McCarren Park Pool's Summer Screen film series. Driven by their loneliness and competitive instincts, Max Fischer (Schwartzman) and Herman Blume (played brilliantly by Bill Murray) transgress in increasingly absurd and elaborate ways; but for all their misery, the film is ultimately an uplifting treatise on human compassion bolstered by a Kinks/Who/Zoot Sims-filled soundtrack.
