Evoking lo-fi legends like Sebadoh, Guided by Voices, and Apples in Stereo, Dean Wells (aka the Capstan Shafts) is a stunningly prolific songwriter. But, though he's released hundreds upon hundreds of one-minute epics, you can count the songwriter's actual gigs on one reclusive, paranoid paw. As such, his opening slot tonight for NYC spazz-rockers Get Him Eat Him, who also play as Wells' backing band, is a coming-out party of sorts. And it's good timing: his appeal was recently reinforced with the release of Fixation Protocols, a collection of deeply burrowing, straight-to-tape tunes that casts a glance at everyone from Robert Pollard and Rivers Cuomo to Lou Reed and John Darnielle.
