Xiu Xiu aren't afraid to express the inexpressible (even if it sometimes leads to a serious case of TMI). Mastermind Jamie Stewart parades his vulnerabilities and angst through a sea of cathartic cries ("OH!"), as the group churn brooding electronics over erratic percussion. The San Jose natives are currently enjoying a wave of critical acclaim for their latest release, Women as Lovers, which, amongst other abrasions, features a rough-around-the-edges rendition of Queen's "Under Pressure" backed by former Swans singer Michael Gira. Xiu Xiu are joined tonight by the avant-goth Americana of Carla Bozulich's Evangelista and prolific new-millennium noisemaker Prurient.
