While many DJs treat their obscure record collections as ends unto themselves, the UK's DJ Harvey uses his esoteric knowledge to really bring the party. Not content to simply unearth rarities, Harvey has re-created lost mixes from legendary disco producers (Larry Levan, Ron Hardy) and released a few wildly eclectic mixtapes of his own, including the classic Late Night Sessions and his more recent Sarcastic Disco series. And then there's those parties: epic, hours-long sets in which the DJ drops deep cuts (from post-punk to grime to hair metal) that still keep the dance floor moving. If the tracks alone don't get you floating, the Paddlewheel Queen's gentle drift down the East River should do the trick.
