Music: Rock/Pop Frances w/ La Strada and the Crash Motive

Led by Columbia PhD. student Paul Hogan, Frances play lushly orchestrated indie pop that's bound to attract references to bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and Beirut. And when Frances release their debut album, All the While, later this year, expect similarly devoted followings to arise. Stuffing his album full of horns, strings, and triumphant choruses, Hogan evokes wonder and earnestness through complicated melodies and exotic, bookish narratives. Tonight, the band continues its artfully arranged indie-world takeover with a headlining gig at the Merc supported by another buzz-worthy local band, folk-rockers La Strada.
