To paraphrase the Beastie Boys, nothing sounds quite like a Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. This evening, the Tank pays tribute to the world's most fetishized drum machine with a night of upbeat electro pop. Hailing from New Jersey by way of George Clinton's mothership, Mr. Manic brings the P-funk, version 2.0. Last Year's Model, meanwhile, channel Devo's punkier side, right down to the cheesy synths, hooky guitars, and a lead singer more prone to yelping than singing. But don't expect much 808 action from them — their flesh-and-blood drummer handles the beats. Cheaters.
