Summer of Love
Friday Aug 8, 2008 (7:30pm)

After too long an absence, punk choreographer Karole Armitage returns to the NYC dance scene for one night only. Represented on Broadway with Passing Strange and the ongoing Shakespeare in the Park revival of Hair, her Armitage Gone! Dance company performs Summer of Love, the movement-based version of a hippie love-in. Those familiar with Armitage's seamless fusion of ballet and modern dance know that, despite the time period, this new work is anything but sentimental. Summer of Love doesn't sound like a bunch of old scratched LPs either — Afrobeat band Burkina Electric have a powerful sense of rhythm. The old can be new again, and hopefully it can return for a longer engagement someday.
