More Flavor: Parade West Indian Labor Day Carnival Parade

Eastern Parkway gets a glittery makeover today with the 41st annual West Indian Carnival Parade. Starting at 11am, grand marshals (including Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Paterson) lead more than 70 floats past the Brooklyn Museum, each one packed with booming soundsystems blasting calypso and dancehall, and surrounded by scantily and elaborately clad mas dancers. Last year drew upward of three million revelers; expect a similar-sized throng this year, as folks flock to enjoy the spectacle, the music, and the delightful Caribbean food stands set up along the parkway (vegetarian jerk goat, anyone?).
