After winning all kinds of accolades for last year's sweeping, somber No Country for Old Men, those slippery Coen Brothers shift both their tone and scope in Burn After Reading. George Clooney (in ham-hock comedic mode) is a federal marshal canoodling with Tilda Swinton, the icy wife of CIA agent John Malkovich, whose top-secret documents fall into the laps of fitness trainers Frances McDormand and Brad Pitt (rocking dumb-and-dumber cow eyes and bad dye jobs with gusto). Although the stakes aren't terribly high in this DC caper, the film's jangly dialogue and rat-a-tat-tat pacing renders the Brothers' obvious glee in sending up the Washington idiocracy irresistible.
