Mutek now has some much-needed competition when it comes to North American electronic-music festivals. Created by the founders of Minimoo — a series of techno-oriented underground parties in New York — Minitek expands on the idea with a nicely curated roster of global talent. Among those waiting for record boxes at JFK's baggage carousels this weekend are Konrad Black, Martin Buttrich, Magda, and Heidi. NYC's own Derek Plaslaiko and Matthew Dear (under his Audion moniker) also appear, alongside Format B, Camea, Adultnapper, and Monoblock, with François K and Richie Hawtin wrapping things things up on Sunday evening. One can't help but imagine the tumbleweeds behind the decks of Berlin's clubs.
