Known for last year's nighttime projection of Sleepwalkers onto the exterior of MoMA, Doug Aitken returns with an exhibition at 303 Gallery. His new show takes a romantic look at the large animals, roadside motels, and bright neon signs that characterize the American West. The three-channel projection Migration (Empire installation) stares into the eyes of an owl and horse; a series of lightbox-lettered words recalls Ed Ruscha and the vocabulary of Manifest Destiny; and walkabout draws viewers into a flashing vortex of neon lights.
