The Metropolitan Opera kicks off the season in style with a celebration of its 125th anniversary. The Gala stars Renée Fleming in fully staged scenes from La Traviata, Manon, and Capriccio; her ornate costumes are originals by legendary fashion designers John Galliano, Christian Lacroix, and Karl Lagerfeld, all created specifically for the occasion. As for the audience, evening gowns and tuxes are not out of line for this formal event, and coming on the heels of NYC Fashion Week, there should be plenty of haute couture afoot. A dinner with the cast follows the performance.
