Today, local AIDS charity Housing Works airs out its used book cafe for the fourth year in a row, taking over a cobblestoned SoHo street with thousands of $1 books and CDs. The event offers far more than surplus stock and castaways, though: during its ten-year tenure as a renowned literary meeting place, HW has established quite a high-caliber collection. If you're more stylista than book nerd, stuff a $20 bag with clothing gems straight off the swanky HW Thrift racks. When you get hungry during your discount spree, hit up refreshments from adjacent Nolita House and Puck Fair. Although summer is over, it's never too late for one last block party.
