The Green Room at 45 Bleecker Street says…

Norwegian writer Jon Fosse has been hailed as one of the world's greatest playwrights, yet few Americans had seen his work until three years ago, when the aptly named Oslo Elsewhere presented its first Fosse production in New York. In Fosse's Sa Ka La, Mother suffers a massive stroke on her 60th birthday, leaving her children and party guests just as incapacitated. The characters struggle to communicate their pain through restrained, agreeable conversation (the word "Yeah" has never felt more harrowing or desperate), and Fosse's pauses are like repeated slaps in the face, leaving no room for reconciliation. Catch stand-out performances by Frank Harts and Jacqueline Antaramian in this translation by Sarah Cameron Sunde.
