Artist/musician/CEO Kevin Bewersdorf is all pitch and no product. Bewersdorf, who some might recognize from a handful of mumblecore films, sells himself like a televangelist at the top of a pyramid scheme, and, like those vultures of the wee hours, is both hilarious and terrifying. His latest enterprising parody, Maximum Sorrow, lures in clients with a sleek brand identity and marketing campaign. The company website (much of Bewersdorf's work resides online) outlines a consumer epistemology and a sublime concept that he calls the INFOspirit. Monuments to the INFOspirit at Chinatown's V&A Gallery includes a mandala-like animated GIF, a pseudo-classical granite altar, and an elaborate brochure.
