Music: Rock/Pop The Pull-Out Method presents Arms w/ Speck Mountain

While Flavorpill copyeditor Todd Goldstein takes the traditional rock route with the Harlem Shakes, his Arms project displays a more twisted pop genius. At once atmospheric and toe-tapping, Arms' debut album, Kids Aflame, manages to evoke everyone from Stephin Merritt to Echo and the Bunnymen, snapping non-chalantly from the finger-snapping ambience of the title track to new-wave reveler "Shitty Little Disco." Tonight, Arms headlines Union Hall alongside lovable Mazzy Star sound-alikes Speck Mountain. Up-and-comers from Chicago, Speck take a similarly skewed route to indie-pop, marrying heavy echoes to jangly guitars and bittersweet vocals.
