Director and puppeteer Erin Orr collaborates with composer/musician Rima Fand on Don Cristobal, a funny and affecting portrait of a Spanish "Punch" marionette that questions the character's appetite for comedic violence. Based on Federico García Lorca's incorporation of the puppet in his plays, Orr's Don Cristobal is both an homage to the medium's slapstick shenanigans and an examination of its wooden central figure. Part of HERE's 2009 Culturemart series, the show is presented as a double feature with Border Towns, a multimedia theatrical collage that explores recordings from US border communities.
