Almost as much of a force in the NYC art world as the works presented in this exhibit, Ileana Sonnabend's taste for Warhol resulted in a collection that encompasses many of the best hits of the pop-art fire-starter's career. And while many of these pieces, including the monuments Death and Disasters, Flowers, and his candy-colored portraits of Mao and Marilyn, have made the museum and gallery rounds before, this is the first time the Sonnabend collection is being presented as a cohesive body. In typical Warholian fashion, the event is marked by a catalog of the show complete with reproductions, essays, and of course, a price tag.
