Art and life are inseparable for Tehching Hsieh. The Taiwan-born artist, who literally jumped ship into the US in 1974, created some of the most remarkable performance-art pieces of the '70s and '80s — culminating in a 13-year-long performance that ended with the beginning of the new millennium, in which Hsieh simply stayed alive. In his first performance, which is currently documented in this MoMA solo show, Hsieh locked himself in a cage for a whole year with nothing to do and no place to go. The exhibiton features all 365 photographs that mark the performance's creeping engagement with time.
