Mori, Courvoisier, Craig Taborn, and others join the big man himself, Zorn, for two super-Stone benefit sets on Friday, January 30 (8 & 10pm).
Second to the venue's founder, John Zorn, Ikue Mori might be the Stone's archetypal performer. With a long tradition in the Downtown music scene — she was the drummer for '70s no-wave heroes DNA — Mori's a master improvisationist, her laptop and electronics enhancing her collaborators' play, whether the sounds be dissonant and imposing or pointillist and whimsical. As such, her two shows this week with saxophonist Lotte Anker will inevitably be explorations into the unknown. On Sunday, their trio is completed by the ethereal sounds of Miguel Frasconi's ringing glass instruments, while Mori and Anker reunite with pianist and fellow traveler Sylvie Courvoisier later in the week.
