Brazilian break-out Curumin delivers a modern version of the danceable funk and samba-influenced rock that made countrymen Jorge Ben and Gilberto Gil worldwide stars in the 1970s. Curumin's 21st-century take, apparent on his 2008 album Japan Pop Show, adds hip-hop and DJ beats to the mix, but still relies on jazzy South American grooves and Portuguese vocals to complete the sound.
