Prolific English poet, playwright and translator (he also plays in a rock band), Simon Armitage makes his first appearance at the Poetry Center. “Armitage’s poems, funny and savage, reveal unlovely aspects of modern life, but they also glitter with comedy,” wrote Helen Vendler. A recent U.S. Poet laureate, Charles Simic has written nearly 20 books of poetry. His “writing comes dancing out on the balls of its feet, colloquially fit as a fiddle, a sparring partner for the world,” wrote Seamus Heaney.
