“It's a day off for some lucky New Yorkers (thanks, Chris!), but that doesn't mean you should rest on your cultural laurels. Head to the Met, normally closed on Mondays, where select galleries are open despite the holiday. We're betting most tourists aren't in on this secret, so hopefully you'll avoid the swarms as you peruse the latest exhibition, American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life, 1765-1915, which opens today. Roxy Paine's amazing installation on the roof, Maelstrom, has also been extended through November, so, weather permitting, check out the stainless steel forest/vascular system, the artist's largest work to date.”
Come and explore the Met on a Monday! October 12 the Main Building—select galleries, public restaurants, and shops—will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in honor of Columbus Day. See the exhibition American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life, 1765–1915 that opens on this day.
The cafeteria, Petrie Court Café and Wine Bar, The American Wing Café and The Roof Garden Café will be open until 4:30 p.m.
