Jeffrey Sachs is the director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and a special advisor to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. He was director of the U.N. Millenium Project and advisor on the Millenium Development Goals Report, the internationally accepted goals to reduce extreme poverty, disease and hunger by the year 2015. Sachs is the author of Common Wealth: Economics For a Crowded Planet.
