Joe's Pub says…

After a busy year spent producing and promoting “Boulder,” the latest album by Canadian Folk legend Ferron (which includes performances by Samantha Parton of the Be Good Tanyas, The Indigo Girls and Ani DiFranco and was released on Bitch’s own label Short Story Records) Bitch and Ferron toured together for much of 2008, bridging a generational gap and playing to standing ovations worldwide, including the Vancouver Folk Music Festival and Stockholm Pride.  “Boulder” received high praise and critical acclaim for its production.

Bitch decided to try out her newly found talent by producing all of the songs for her own upcoming record, “Blasted,” and as a result has made the most personal and confident recording of her career.

Bitch began recording the new collection of songs while living in the winter wilderness in a house on Ferron’s land in Michigan. At some point she realized she was making a new album. She then moved the project to the East Village, then to Brooklyn, then hotel rooms and friends’ living rooms across America while she toured. “Blasted” was born in back seats, by wood-stoves, in her band-mates’ Brooklyn room and by the sheer will of an artist who has always continued to expand and exceed her musical and song-writing limits.

Bitch’s music career launched when her first group, Bitch and Animal, was discovered by Ani DiFranco, who after hearing of their infamous wild shows in Provincetown, MA, took them on tour and signed them to her label, Righteous Babe. Following this, Bitch went on to start a solo career, and was picked up by the legendary Kill Rock Stars label for her debut release, “Make This Break This.”

Currently Bitch is in Asheville, NC, performing a two-month run in the play “A Beautiful View.” The return to her acting roots is a welcomed one, since she was re-bitten by the acting ‘bug’ while working on John Cameron Mitchell’s film“Shortbus” a few years ago.  Fans can expect “Blasted” to be released spring 2010.
