The year 2008 marked the 50th anniversary of Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart, which "may well be Africa’s best-loved novel," wrote K. Anthony Appiah. "For so many readers around the world, it is Chinua Achebe who opened up the magic casements of African fiction." In 2009, Achebe publishes his first new book in more than 20 years: The Education of a British-Protected Child, a collection of autobiographical essays.
