- Fela!
After last season's successful run on Off-Broadway, Fela! takes its rightful place on the Great White Way. Choreographer Bill T. Jones' directorial foray into the life of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti hits all the right notes. Jones, whose acclaimed dance company celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, fuses energetic routines with the sounds of 1970s Africa as interpreted by Antibalas, a band credited for bringing the Afrobeat genre to a new generation. With its inspired jams, the Brooklyn-based collective transports the audience to Fela's Lagos club, the Shrine. Fela used music as a weapon to bring about social change and demand government responsibility, and star Sahr Ngaujah embodies that spirit, capturing both the creativity and the boundless passion.

I saw Fela a few weeks ago while visiting New York. It was AMAZING. This play takes you on an emotional journey to Lagos and makes you feel like Fela himself is performing for you. The young cast takes their performance to a level I've never seen in a stage production before. If you're in the New York area you have to see this show.
