Tangier was home to Paul Bowles for 50-plus years, and in Mohamed Ulad's American in Tangier, the polymathic expat looked back on a life spent in cultural translation. For tonight's Bidoun-and-Semiotexte soirée, that 1993 rarity screens before two Michel Auder travelogues, Chronicles/Morocco and Morocco 1972: The Real Chronicles with Viva. Made 30 years apart, Auder's vivid, diaristic shorts both stem from footage of a family vacation with then-wife/Warhol starlet Viva. Morocco's first openly gay writer, Abdellah Taïa introduces the shorts and explores his country's lure for the outsider.
