Saul Williams walks a fine, marvelous line between poet and punk, setting intricately constructed anti-establishment lyrics to highly syncopated beats and piercingly distorted guitars. He paints vivid images of injustice and rebellion as his Bowie-influenced alter-ego Niggy Tardust from his last album, The Rise and Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust, produced by electronic master Trent Reznor, whose own intense style is an ideal fit for Williams' music — their remix of U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" transforms the well-worn song into an anthemic rallying call. Crunk DJ Krak Attack, metal quartet Activator, and Vermont garage punks Rough Francis round out the eclectic lineup.
