Set in the 15th century, Creature is a play that captures its backward period while remaining thoroughly modern. Beer brewer (and sinner) Margery Kempe gets sick after childbirth and is soon overtaken by the devil. After a visit from a young and bashful priest, however, her visions shift to the celestial — it's Jesus she sees, and in purple robes. Based on a real account, Creature is a down-to-earth reflection on faith and desire that manages to stay evenhanded by keeping a fresh sense of humor.
