Creative Time
Friday Oct 23, 2009 (6–9pm)
Saturday Oct 24, 2009 (10am–7:30pm)
$35 General Admission, $25 Friends, Seniors and Students. One ticket grants admission to both the Friday, October 23rd Ceremony at 7PM and the full day of programming on Saturday, October 24th beginning at 10am.
For 35 years, Creative Time has been committed to groundbreaking new models in art-making that actively engage with and transform the world around us. Over 40 international artists and critics whose work continues to have an impact on the world, including Thomas Hirschorn, The Yes Men, Suzanne Lacy, and Alfredo Jaar will make short, pointed, and dynamic presentations on their work and art and social justice in the public sphere. Morris Dickstein, author of Dancing in the Dark: A Cultural History of the Great Depression, will offer a homily on the challenges and opportunities artists and critics faced in the Great Depression and are confronted with today.
The conference will open on the evening of Friday, October 23 with the presentation of the first, inaugural Creative Time Prize for Art and Social Change, honoring an artist who has committed her/his life’s work to social change in powerful and productive ways. This prize of $25,000 is generously supported by The Annenberg Foundation and is the first award of its kind, honoring impact and commitment over market trends. This year, the Prize will be given to The Yes Men, who will give a special presentation on Friday evening. This loosely affiliated group of over 300 people, with 2 at the helm, is being awarded the first Creative Time Prize for their expansive impact on a global citizenry.
