The Met presents this film made by the great Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa (1910–1998) to accompany the special exhibition Art of the Samurai: Japanese Arms and Armor, 1156–1868, on view now through January 10, 2010. Yojimbo is the story of a wandering samurai who appears to be a jaded loner, but risks his own life to save innocent villagers caught in the middle of a bloody feud between two rival groups and their hired thugs. The film inspired several American westerns, such as A Fistful of Dollars, starring Clint Eastwood, and was remade as Last Man Standing, starring Bruce Willis. The screening will take place in the Met's Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium at 6 p.m.
Tickets for this screening are $15 and are available by clicking here.
