SVA grad and sought-after illustrator Arik Roper has created unforgettable album art for bands as diverse as High on Fire and the Black Crowes, but in his current exhibition of watercolor paintings at Fuse Gallery, the visions are all his own. With a lyrical confidence and light, precise touch that's difficult to achieve in such a fluid media, Roper depicts mythological landscapes and the creatures that inhabit them. A universe of horned wizards, animal spirits, and most especially, magical mushrooms in spectral hues and cloaks of fog, comes to life in Roper's finely tuned mashup of childhood and adult fantasy lands.
