LA-based artist Rebecca Campbell's paintings, including several large-scale works applying her eerie sense of space and sensitivity to anatomy and gesture, demonstrate advanced technical skill. Their deft renderings of space and perspective threaten dissolution even as they make a case for realism, refusing to release their grip on content and meaning. Once the vertigo of her intensely fine craftsmanship wears off, the delight of her practice is her deeper subject matter: the depths of human feeling unlocked by images and objects; the capriciousness of the subconscious; and the perspective and compassion that come with time's passage.
